London Bridge Days Parade
History:
The London Bridge Days Parade, a beloved local event in Lake Havasu City, features spirited marching bands from various schools and organizations, vibrant community floats, and appearances by local celebrities. This long-standing tradition, a highlight of London Bridge Days, sees participants creatively interpreting an annual theme, with entries judged accordingly. The parade begins at McCulloch and Acoma Blvd and proceeds to Capri Blvd, showcasing the city’s community pride and festive spirit.
The London Bridge, originally spanning the River Thames in London, has a rich history dating back to its construction by Peter of Colechurch between 1176 and 1209. The current bridge, designed by John Rennie and completed in 1831, was sold to American businessman Robert McCulloch in 1968. McCulloch relocated the bridge to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, transforming it into a central tourist attraction. The reconstruction involved transporting and reassembling the bridge’s granite blocks, creating an iconic landmark that has drawn millions of visitors and significantly contributed to the city’s growth and popularity.
